Ann Forts is a popular, nationally recognized motivationalspeaker and advocate for the needs and rights of peoplewith disabilities. The primary focus of her speech is tohelp people understand there definitely is an “UP” side tolife with Down Syndrome, which she prefers to call “UP”Syndrome. Ann created the concept of “UP”Syndrome toredefine, in a positive way, the image of mental disabili-ties and to focus on the “ABILITY” portion of the word, disability.

Ann, is a 1987 graduate of the Moultonboro School District in NH. She isemployed in several part-time jobs and finds time to volunteer as an aide toteachers and librarians. She has received many awards, including: 1st Interna-tional Self Empowerment Award by the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation; 1995Annual Down Syndrome Ambassador of Good Will Award; and The Paul G.Hearne / American Association of People with Disabilities 2002 Leadership Award.Ann’s favorite expression is “I Love My Life!” Life!”.

This presentation is one of a continuing series of lectures and performancesfocused on disabilities that honor Clint Hilliard, former head of the Speechand Language Department at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center.This series is made possible through gifts made in his memory.
